Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has sought report from the Sindh government on the damages caused by the recent spell of heavy
rains in parts of the province raising the spectre of floods and breaches of canals and the precautionary measures it has taken to meet any eventuality.
Heavy rains recently in Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas divisions particularly in Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan and Tando Allah Yar have raised concerns among the people of impending floods.
Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the President asked the provincial government to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to meet any eventuality in case of incessant heavy rains and floods in parts of the province. The President also called for the views of the provincial government on the reports of breaches in the RBOD and other canals and the steps taken by it to address the situation, he said.
The President also directed that emergency plans must be in place to ensure the provision of relief goods, medicines and other provisions on short notice to the people that may be adversely affected in case the weather took a nasty turn. He asked the relevant ministers to constantly tour the affected areas and remain with the people and supervise implementation of precautionary and relief measures and plans.
