India trying to weaken, malign freedom struggle: Forum

Srinagar, February 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum led by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that India is trying at every level to weaken the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle either by maligning it or using gun to silence the masses.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The Indian print and electronic media are on the forefront to give Kashmiris a bad name.”

“When it comes to the rape-and-murder of Kashmiri girls like Aasiya and Nilofar or the ruthless killing of budding Tufail Mattu, Zahid Farooq, Wamiq Farooq, or Inayatullah, the Indian media closes its eyes, but cries to high heavens if some youth make good or bad, but harmless, comments on social media about some rock band,” it said referring to a recent police action against the Kashmiri youth using social networking sites including Facebook.

“This is a deliberate attempt at the behest of New Delhi to malign the Kashmiri people and their freedom struggle and a bid to divert attention from a serious issue” the forum said.

“Social networking sites the world over carry favourable or unfavourable comments about individuals, but in no democratic society are such comments deemed as threats or criminal offences, nor are police cases registered against such commentators,” it said.

“India is trying at every level to weaken the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people, and for this, uses the gun to silence the masses on one hand, and seeks to besmirch the image of their struggle on the other,” it said.
