Islamabad, November 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Dr. Asim Hussain Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources has said that the capacity building of professionals in the Oil and Gas sector need to be enhanced and abilities of young talent should be harnessed. He said this while visiting the Oil and Gas Training Institute (OGTI) of OGDCL in Islamabad today. The Advisor was briefed by the OGTI Management, that was also attended by Managing Director and Senior Management of OGDCL.
The Advisor was informed that OGTI is involved in Basic training to new inductees of OGDCL, Knowledge update and continuous training of working professionals and Processing of Foreign Training cases. Special Programs and Courses include Training of Special Trainees of Dera Bugti, Technical Support to Technical Training Center Quetta and Karak and Training for SAARC country professionals. The Advisor was also briefed that OGTI also undertakes linkages between Universities and Industry through Summer Internship and Field attachments, Seminars / Short Courses on management and advancements in technology by inviting Local and Foreign experts, facilitation of in-house promotions through conducting of tests on annual basis and collaboration with training institutes of repute such as LUMS, IBA and PIMs for management training and special training workshops is also carried out by OGTI.
Dr. Asim Hussain said that the Government plans to upgrade OGTI into a degree awarding institute and in this connection a proposal is being prepared for Higher Education Commission (HEC). Initially MS, MBA and Executive MBA programs with particular reference to management of Petroleum Sector would be introduced. Polish Universities have shown willingness to send faculty members to OGTI for capacity building collaboration. As a long term plan, OGTI would be branched out to provincial level also. Dr. Asim Hussain further said that maximum training programs would be scholarship based and the selection process would be based purely on merit.
On this occasion, Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources directed to establish a Museum at the ground floor of the new Petroleum House for educational purpose.
Dr. Asim Hussain also conducted a surprise inspection of SNGPL Islamabad office and heard public complaints. He directed the General Manager (GM) SNGPL Islamabad to depute a Senior officer for hearing public complaints and daily reports be sent to the Ministry. The Advisor also directed SNGPL staff to resolve problems of domestic gas consumers on top priority and warned of strict action against officials who show laxity in performance.
In a separate meeting with the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association(PTEA), Dr. Asim Hussain received a briefing from the PTEA delegation and assured that the problems faced by Textile Industry would be considered. He directed the SNGPL to devise load management mechanism for Faisalabad Industrial Area in consultation with the PTEA. The PTEA delegation was headed by Chairman PTEA Mr. Asghar Ali.
