Strict restrictions amid shutdown in occupied Kashmir

Srinagar, February 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): The authorities have imposed strict restrictions amid shutdown across the territory, today, while Section 144 has been imposed throughout Srinagar district.

Call for a two-day strike on Wednesday and Thursday was given by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, while JKLF has called for shutdown on Friday to demand the return of the body of Muhammad Afzal Guru.

Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in all major towns of the valley. Director General of Police Ashok Prasad in an interview said that restrictions had been imposed in all sensitive areas of the valley including Srinagar. He also hinted at imposition of curfew “if trouble erupts somewhere.” He said that additional police had been deployed to prevent protests.
