Widespread Heavy Monsoon Rains predicted in the country during coming week Heavy rains may cause severe flooding in lower Sindh

Islamabad: Monsoon has been active in Pakistan, and monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in upper parts of the country causing scattered rains over there.

Meteorological conditions indicate that a strong weather system (low pressure area) is developing over central parts of India that would cause widespread heavy rains in Pakistan during the coming week.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may generate severe flooding in lower Sindh, and flash flooding in the local rivers/nullah of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Eastern parts of Balochistan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected from Sunday to Thursday. Heavy falls may cause flash floods in the local rivers/Nullah of the province.

Punjab/Islamabad

Scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected on Sunday/Monday. Widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected from Tuesday to Saturday. Heavy falls may cause flash floods in the local rivers/nullah of the province, particularly in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala and D.G. Khan Divisions.

Sindh

Scattered rain/thundershowers expected in lower Sindh on Monday/Tuesday. Widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected from Wednesday to Saturday in most parts of Sindh including Karachi. Heavy falls may cause severe flooding in the province, particularly in lower Sindh.

Irrigation authorities of Sindh are advised to reduce the inflows in the canals of Sindh during the coming week. Close monitoring of LBOD is also advised to avoid the possible breaches due to heavy rains in coming week.

Balochistan

Scattered rain/thundershowers expected in North-east Balochistan on Monday/Tuesday. Widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected from Wednesday to Friday in eastern parts of Balochistan. Heavy falls may cause flash flooding in the local rivers/Nullah of the province during the period.

GB-Kashmir

Scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected in Kashmir on Sunday/Monday. Widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected from Tuesday to Saturday. Heavy falls may cause flash flooding in the local rivers/ravines.

Isolated rain/thundershowers expected in Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday/Monday. Scattered rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls expected in Gilgit-Baltistan from Tuesday to Sunday. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT during the coming week (from 29 Aug – 3 Sep).
