UNESCO includes the “Uruq Bani Maarid” Reserve on its World Heritage List as the first natural World Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia.

Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Culture, Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Authority, announced the success of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in registering the “Uruq Bani Ma’arid” Reserve on the United Nations World Heritage List. Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), as the first natural World Heritage site on the Kingdom’s territory, as an extension of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to protect and preserve its natural ecosystems, and pay attention to its cultural heritage.

The decision to register was taken during the forty-fifth annual session of the World Heritage Committee, which is hosted by Riyadh during the period from 10 to 25 September.

On this occasion, the Saudi Minister of Culture congratulated the wise leadership on this important international registration, which reflects the unlimited support enjoyed by culture and heritage in the Kingdom, and which reflects the Kingdom’s distinctive heritage of rich heritage and natural diversity in its various regions.

The Minister of Culture affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting natural heritage and developing it in a sustainable manner, based on the wise leadership’s keenness on natural heritage and its strategic position in Saudi Vision 2030.
