Islamabad: Two meetings were held today in Ministry of States and Frontier Regions; one discussing the role of FATA Development Authority in the development activities in FATA while the other meeting focused on the early recovery assistance framework for reintegration of IDPs Returnees and Stayee population in FATA.
2. The meetings were headed by the Minister for SAFRON, Engr. Shaukat Ullah Khan while other Parliamentarians belonging to FATA were also present in the meeting. These included FATA Parliamentary Leader Munir Khan Orakzai, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Senator Saleh Shah, Senator Hafiz Rashid Ahmed, Pir Haider Shah, Noor ul Haq Qadri, Malik Jawad Hussain Orakzai and others.
3. The briefing by FATA-DA showcased the its achievements since its inception in 2006. Among others, the achievements also included building of two dams while work on three others is still in progress.
Minister for SAFRON and other parliamentarians were informed about the skill development centers established in different agencies and FRs in FATA. FATA-DA also briefed about its joint venture with Pakistan Stone Development Company in creation of Mohmand Marble City in Mohmand Agency, located near Warsak Dam.
4. The second briefing was given by the UNDP and FDMA on early recovery needs assessment to be taken by the UNDP along with FDMA in FATA. Minister for SAFRON emphasized that both UNDP and FDMA should focus on tangibles and provide people of affected areas with housing, schools, roads, clean drinking water etc.
Minister for SAFRON also took note that neither the Parliamentarians nor the Ministry of SAFRON was taken on board while discussing the parameters of early recovery. He advised that both of these actors should be included in the consultation process.
