Lahore: A meeting of Punjab University faculty members held here in the Al-Raazi Hall of Centre for Undergraduate Studies New Campus against the yesterday’s firing incident at the house of Member Syndicate, Member Disciplinary Committee and Chairman Physics Department Prof Dr Shaukat Ali. Deans of faculties, heads of departments and a large number of male and female teachers attended the meeting. The house unanimously strongly condemned the incident.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Dr Shaukat Ali said this was a terrible and terrorist activity which aimed at harassment and murder threat. Dr Shaukat said he was member of administrative committees and resisted the activities of barbarism, harassing and torturing the students by Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT). He said he was a member of Syndicate conducting inquiries against the students who were involved in activities of hooliganism, terrorizing and disturbing the peaceful academic atmosphere of varsity.
Chowkidar Mehmood and armed guard Waheed were the eye-witnesses of the incident. He said if any member of my family, at the time of firing, was present in the premises in the house, it might cost fatal loss. He said after the incident, the lives of all his family members were in danger. President and General Secretary Academic Staff Association (ASA) also spoke on the occasion.
Representatives of Officers Welfare Association also strongly condemned the attack and firing incident at the house of Dr Shaukat Ali. Later the participants took out a huge rally from the Centre to gate No. 2, holding placards against the hooliganism. The participants demanded launching of operation in hostels and ouster of illegal occupants. They also demanded the provincial government initiate legal proceedings against all those culprits who were nominated in the FIR and are expelled students.
