Professors of Dow University of Medical and Health Sciences end hunger strike

Karachi, November 01, 2012 (PPI-OT): On the directives of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, a team comprising of Sindh Minister for Law Mr. Muhammad Ayaz Soomro and Political Coordinator to CM Mr. Siddique Abu Bhai today visited hunger strike camp at Dow University of Medical and Health Sciences.

They talked to Vice Chancellor of University Prof. Masood Hameed and other senior doctors Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Umar Farooq, Dr. Khalida Soomro, Dr. Ghulam Mujtaba Memon, Dr, K.K Niazi, Dr. Jamil Yousifzai and others, listened to their demands, who complained that visitors and parents / relatives of certain patients had quarreled with them and there is apprehension of threat to lives of professors and other teaching community.

Vice Chancellor of DUMHS Prof. Masood Hameed, Senior Doctors- Prof. Dr. Khalida Soomro, Dr. Ghulam Mujtaba Memon, Prof. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Umar Farooq, Dr. K.K Niazi Dr. Jameel Yousufzai and others informed that certain patients are frequently fighting with doctors, as such protection and security to teaching doctors be ensured while a bill be passed in Sindh Assembly for ensuring security to doctors.

Sindh Law Minister Mr. Ayaz Soomro on behalf of Chief Minister Sindh assured the Vice Chancellor and other doctors of DUMHS that their issues will be solved and prompt security will be ensured. He said that doctors are Maseeha’s of Humanity and their services are always countable, while security for doctors and Medical University Teachers will be made prompt. Later Mr. Ayaz Soomro presented Juices to professors and got hunger strike ended.

He also assured that a bill for security measures and protection to professors / teachers of Medical Universities will be tabled in next session of assembly scheduled to be concerned in next week.
