Islamabad, October 26, 2012 (PPI-OT): American attorney and former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission‚ Newton Norman Minnow has said that the upcoming US Presidential election between President Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney will be very close.
In an interview with our special correspondent Murtaza Solangi in Chicago‚ he said this Presidential election would be similar to the previous 10 presidential elections‚ with the exceptions of the elections of President Johnson in 1964 and President Reagan in 1984‚ in which the winning candidate won with very narrow margin.
Newton N. Minnow who had campaigned for President John F. Kennedy prior to the 1960 elections saw a similarity between Kennedy and Barack Obama as both had to face obstacles in wining Democratic nominations for President‚ but later they proved their capabilities and won the presidential elections.
Newton N. Minnow is the person who had hired Barack Obama as Intern in his law firm and also encouraged him to get involved in politics. Minnow said he had been deeply impressed with the talent and capabilities of Barack Obama.
He said he had a belief that Mr. Obama would make a great contribution to public service in the future and would become one of the great leaders of the country. Minnow said he had some sense that Barack Obama could become President of the country‚ which he later proved. He said he had supported him for his Presidential campaign in 2008.
It may be recalled that Born in Milwaukee‚ Wisconsin‚ in 1926‚ Newton N. Minnow served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 and attained the rank of a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Minnow campaigned for President John F. Kennedy prior to the 1960 presidential election. In 1961 he was appointed by President Kennedy to be one of seven commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission as well as its Chair.
