PM vows to spend every penny of flood-related donations in transparent manner

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has pledged that every penny of donations collected for the flood victims will be spent in a very transparent manner and will reach the needy.

He was talking to international media over flood situation, in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Expressing gratitude to all the countries that helped Pakistan in the current situation, the Prime Minister appealed the world community to help Pakistanis as the United Nations did through its flash appeal.

The Prime Minister said the Federal government along with provincial governments and rescue agencies are fully committed to taking action to rescue people and providing relief to flood-affected people.

He said we are committing all our resources to relief and rescue operations. At this point of time we are providing shelters, portable water, mosquito kits and medical treatment and we are also seeing the difficult phase of rehabilitation is also just few weeks away.

He said with the help of our security forces, thousands of people are being shifted to safer places.

He said relief activities should be multiplied many times on a larger scale otherwise this challenge will remain a challenge till we reach the last person.

The Prime Minister said after thorough consultation, we have constituted a National Flood Response and Coordination Center which will ensure effective and speedy implementation of our all actions. It will have communication with PDMAs in the provinces, coordinate rescue and relief efforts and also coordinate with donor agencies.

Counting on damages of the flood, the Prime Minister said the flood situation is probably the worst in the history of Pakistan.

He said millions of people have been displaced, more than one thousand people killed including 300 children while thousands of others injured.

Shehbaz Sharif said approximately one million animals have gone and standing crops completely washed away and over 3500 kilo meters of roads have been damaged.

Hundreds of bridges, flyovers, and underpasses have been damaged.

The Prime Minister said our Ministers and secretaries are in the field along with engineering staff of the Army and other institutions to repair this damaged network of roads to keep the food supply smooth in affected areas.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said this catastrophic situation has led to a very grim economic situation.

He went on to say that floods have added to our economic burdens and created a very complicated situation. Damaged infrastructure is creating lack of access to basic needs of life in flood affected areas.
