Pakistani community in UAE celebrated Pakistan Independence Day

Islamabad: The members of Pakistani community in the UAE celebrated Pakistan Independence Day on Sunday, August 14, 2011 with traditional fervour, enthusiasm and simplicity. The flag hoisting ceremony was held at the premises of Pakistan Embassy, Abu Dhabi at 0800 hours on 14th August, 2011. Ambassador of Pakistan in UAE, Mr. Jamil Ahmed Khan unfurled the National Flag in the presence of a large number of Pakistani community members, their families and Embassy officials, says a press release received here today from Dubai.

Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out during the function.

While speaking on the occasion Ambassador of Pakistan in UAE, Mr. Jamil Ahmed Khan highlighted the significance of the Independence Day and said that like every year, today we pledge to put our heart and soul together to make Pakistan a strong and stable nation. He said that there is a need to work hard and make collective efforts to transform Pakistan into a modern, progressive and tolerant society.

The Ambassador paid glowing tributes to the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and said that Pakistan was created on the ground rules of religious freedom and indiscrimination for all its citizens. We have come a long way since our independence and are proud to be a progressive, democratic and forward looking Islamic country.

He emphasized that today under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Pakistan stands tall among the comity of nations.

He said that Pakistan is the only country in the world that was born through struggle and strife as a Muslim homeland. Destiny has given us a chance to prove our mettle. We are now well placed on the road of destiny to reach great heights. Pakistan is today a country rapidly moving on the path of progress and development in the light of the guidelines and vision of Shaheed Quaid-e- Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Reforms in all sectors have been successfully introduced and are being implemented.

Extremists and militants wishing to impose their political ideology on our people pose the greatest threat to the security and stability of the country that was founded on this day. Let us, therefore, resolve to defeat the militant mindset and make Pakistan a truly welfare driven rather than a security driven state, he added.

Ambassador Jamil said that UAE has been our steadfast friend. The close ties between our two brotherly countries exemplify the finest in diplomatic and economic relationship. The founding father of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan had a special love for Pakistan. Pakistan is confident that its relations with the UAE will continue to grow from strength to strength under the visionary leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and His Highness President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, he added.

Ambassador Jamil Ahmed Khan urged Pakistan community in United Arab Emirates to renew their commitment to serve their country. He urged them to realize the value of the gift of independence bestowed by Almighty Allah on Muslims of South Asia. He impressed upon them to maintain the spirit of independence and pursue the cherished objectives of our forefathers. He emphasized that to achieve these objectives and goals every individual has to play his part with dedication and commitment to make Pakistan stronger and prosperous. Representatives from the Church of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi, played national songs.

A separate flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Consulate, Dubai where H. E. Mr. Tariq Iqbal Soomro, the Consul General of Pakistan unfurled the national flag. It was also attended by a large number of community members and officials.

Consul General Mr. Tariq Iqbal Soomro while addressing the gathering said that by the grace of Allah Almighty, we are celebrating the 65th Independence Day of Pakistan today. The day reminds us of the heroic and relentless struggle the Muslims of the sub-continent waged for a separate homeland under the inspiring and dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

He said that our forefathers rendered numerous sacrifices in the form of man and material for the establishment of this county. Their demand for a separate state was premised on the right to self-determination. They wanted a state where they could order their lives in accordance with the principles of Islam and enjoy the fruits of freedom as equal citizens of the state. The 14th of August represents the fulfilment of aspirations of the millions of Muslims.

The Consul General said that under the dynamic and visionary leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani along with the coalition partners the democratic government is committed to bringing relief to the common man, steer Pakistan out of the current problems, improve economy and make Pakistan developed, progressive, self-reliant and democratic Islamic Welfare State. Pakistan is rapidly moving on the path of progress and development. Reforms in all sectors have been successfully introduced and are being implemented.

The Consul General paid rich tributes to the dynamic leadership of UAE H. H. Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and said that Pakistan and UAE enjoys extremely cordial and brotherly relations and expressed hope that the relations between our two brotherly countries would continue to grow in the days to come.

The Consul General emphasized that as we celebrate the Independence Day today we should also rededicate ourselves to uphold the principles for which Pakistan was created. At the same time we should also pause and ponder whether we have upheld those principles and values which we vow every year to uphold or not.

He called upon the Pakistani Community to let us resolve on this occasion that we will work together for the prosperity, sovereignty and progress of our nation so that we attain the ideals of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Pakistan is a vibrant nation with tremendous human and natural resources. He said that if all of us join hands and work to make our nation great we will succeed by Allah’s Grace in overcoming current challenges to make Pakistan a bastion of peace and prosperity for all its citizens.
