Pakistani community in Tehran expresses Solidarity with Kashmiri people


Islamabad, February 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): A ceremony was held today at the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. It was presided over by Ambassador Khalid Aziz Babar.

The function was attended by Iranian scholars, academicians, intellectuals, media representatives, members of the Pakistani community and Defence Attachés posted in Tehran.

The messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out at the ceremony after the recitation of the holy Quran.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador paid tributes to the valiant people of Kashmir who had rendered tremendous sacrifices in their struggle for attaining their inalienable right to self-determination. He said, over the past two decades, thousands of Kashmiri men, women and children have been martyred for raising their voice against the occupation of foreign forces. He said the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir call for holding a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir to determine its accession to Pakistan or India.

This call has been ignored by India. The Ambassador said, it was time that India responds to the demands of the people of Kashmir and initiate measures to end the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir as well as engage Pakistan in a dialogue to find a permanent solution of the dispute.

Iranian Scholars Dr. Mortaza Yazdani and Mr. Hamid Golpira in their speeches highlighted the plight of the Kashmiri people, reiterating the need for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiris people.

Mr. Golpira reiterated that the Kashmir dispute should be settled through a UN supervised plebiscite. Mr. Yazdani highlighted the atrocities of the Indian occupation forces in occupied Kashmir and called on the international community to put pressure on India for bringing an end to human rights violations being committed against the Kashmiri people. Mr. Nasir Yamin Mardokhi presented a poem in support of the Kashmir cause and just struggle of the Kashmiri people.

Miss Kamali of the Urdu Department, Tehran University spoke on the issue saying that there was no denying the fact that Indian brutalities have failed to suppress the freedom sentiment of the people of Kashmir. She also recited verses from the poetry of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal regarding Kashmir.

Posters, pamphlets and leaflets depicting atrocities of the Indian forces against the innocent people of Kashmir were displayed and distributed among the participants of the function.
