Pakistan Study Centre Board of Governors meeting held

Lahore: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, who is also Chairman Board of Governors PSC, presided over the 10th meeting of the Board of Governors of Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) here in the committee room of PSC on Wednesday. Prof Dr S Qalb-i-Abid, Ms Ghayyur Fatima, Prof Dr Khurram Qadir, Prof Dr Adnan Sarwar, Prof Dr Imdad Hussain Sahito, Prof Dr Muhammad Hafeez, PSC Director Prof Dr Massarrat Abid and Dr Uzma Ikram attended the meeting.

Director PSC Prof Dr Massarrat Abid welcomed the members of Board and presented the report of activities and the achievements of the Centre for the year 2010-11. The board was informed that PSC was producing research on different themes of Pakistan Studies in shape of books as well as in its research journal. Moreover, regional publications are also being published by the Centre. The Director told the members that due to the encouragement of Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, the Centre was able to play an effective role in the promotion of academic and research collaboration with scholars and institutes of national and international repute. The Centre has also been organizing international conferences and seminars.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran and the members appreciated the efforts of Centre and approved the plan to organize a 2-day international conference in October 2011 on “Pakistan: Challenges to Democracy, Governance and National Unity”. The director brought into the notice of the members that this is going to be fourth international conference to be organized by Punjab University’s Pakistan Study Centre. Eminent international scholars from United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, China, Iran and India have already sent summaries of their research papers for the conference. Moreover, more than 40 Pakistani scholars from public and private universities of Pakistan will also participate in conference. The conference will address issues such as Pakistan’s security concerns, current and cross-current of US-Pakistan relations, the energy crises in Pakistan, China and India as rising powers and Pakistan etc.

The board approved the budget of Pakistan Study Centre for the year 2011-12 and recommended that more funds should be provided to the Centre so that faculty development, publications and seminar programme should continue. Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran promised to provide sufficient funds for publications and academic development of the Centre. In the end the members were thanked for their participation and contribution in the meeting.
