Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has approved two years extension in service for Mrs. Fauzia Abbas, Ambassador of Pakistan to Denmark on humanitarian grounds. Mrs. Fauzia Abbas lost her husband on 30th June, 2011 after a brief bout with cancer.

The Prime Minister expressed his sorrow and grief over the sad demise of former Ambassador Shahbaz during his meeting with Mrs. Fauzia Abbas at Prime Minister’s House this morning. He offered Fateha for the departed soul and appreciated the professional credentials of the deceased.

The Prime Minister observed that Ambassador Shahbaz was an officer of high stature and represented his country in the most distinguished manner particularly as Ambassador of Pakistan in Vienna. During his postings in Geneva, Hague and Vienna, he acquired great expertise in the field of disarmament and chemical weapons. He earned a reputation for himself as a spokesperson of the G-77 in Vienna.

The Prime Minister took the decision purely on humanitarian grounds for the benefit of the minor children of Mrs Fauzia Abbas. He advised Mrs. Abbas to continue to perform her duties as Ambassador in Denmark, and use her best abilities in the service of her country.
