No Guru’s hanging had Vajpayee been PM: Raw chief

New Delhi, February 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): Former chief of Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), AS Dulat calling the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru a setback to the process of reconciliation in Kashmir said that had Atal Bihari Vajpayee been Prime Minister he would have never let Guru hang.

AS Dulat, who headed RAW in 1999-2000 and was subsequently appointed as advisor to the PM (Vajpayee) on Kashmir in a media interview in New Delhi said, “Even though BJP had been demanding Guru’s hanging, Atal Bihari Vajpayee would have not done it had he been heading the government.”

He said that Vajpayee was instrumental in shaping BJP’s Kashmir strategy and an important player in Track II diplomacy.

Dulat is firm that the hanging ” has the potential to take the valley several years back. I was not expecting this to happen,” he added.
