Lawyers stage protest for handover of Guru’s body

Srinagar, February 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, scores of lawyers staged a protest march in Bandipore to demand handover of the mortal remains of Mohammad Afzal Guru to his family.

The lawyers took out a protest rally from District Court, Bandipora to Gulshan Chowk. They raised slogans in favour of Guru and vowed, “Until the mortal remains of Guru are not handed over to his family, we will continue to stage peaceful protests.”

President of District Bar Association, Bandipora, Sofi Feroz while addressing the lawyers said “by hanging Afzal Guru, Indian authorities have exhibited their oppressive and colonial ideology towards Kashmiris.”

On the other hand, strict restrictions continued in different parts of Kulgam district where clashes erupted on Monday after the death of a 55-year-old woman during forces’ raid on her house at Khudwani-Qaimoh in the district.

Meanwhile, anti-India protests were held in Pulwama and Shopian areas.
