Karachi:Karachi Electric Supply Company has completed an operation against illegal power connections in Lines Area. This operation was conducted with eight vehicles and KESC security staff and all illegal kunda/hook connections were removed from the over head main supply lines. These were highly dangerous, illegal connections which were latched onto the KESC system using wires normally used for telephones lines.
In another similar operation, KESC took immediate action on a complaint lodged by a responsible citizen, on its anti-theft complaint email address ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’. In this anti-theft raid, the KESC team removed large lengths of illegal connections in Scheme 33 of Gulzar e Hijri. During the removal drive, a large quantity of dangerous pvc wires were taken off from the very roots.
These operations are part of KESC’s City-wide anti-kunda drive in order to reduce electricity theft, not only causing undue financial burden and loss to the utility but also burning out PMTs and other precious equipment due to heavy overloading. The kundas are also main factor behind electrocution of common people while connecting unsafe telephone wires to live high tension supply lines.
KESC has asked citizens to strictly refrain from any mode of illegal power use that is causing huge issues for general public and putting the whole power supply system into jeopardy. Citizens also need to keep an eye on those involved in electricity theft and to persuade them against this social evil and any such instance of power theft which is witnessed should be immediately reported on KESC’s Call Centre 118, or via email on ‘email@example.com’.
