Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry asks political parties to present Economic Roadmap for Pakistan to uplift national economy


Karachi, December 24, 2012 (PPI-OT): Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), in view of prevailing economic scenario, sluggish industrial and commercial activities, has asked all the heads of political parties of Pakistan to present their “Economic Roadmap for Pakistan” to uplift the national economy. Subsequently, accepting KCCI’s invitation, Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI) along with his economic team visited KCCI.

Chairman Businessmen Group and former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli, welcoming Imran Khan, Chairman PTI apprised that he as Chairman of BMG was engaged in trade/business politics since last two decades and able to meet all the leaders of various governments on the issues and genuine problems confronting to the business and industrial community of Karachi.

He stated that BMG was supported by more than 85 percent business community of Karachi and since last 15 years BMG has not lost even one-single seat in KCCI elections which endorse public services by BMGians. In prevailing difficult situation of deteriorating law and order situation, energy crises, and other problems the business community of Karachi is contributing 68 percent revenue to national exchequer.

He asked Imran Khan, how he will implement PTI’s economic roadmap and what importance will be accorded to Karachi? Having chosen a good economic team and economic road map necessary legislation and majority in the assembly would be required to turn the vision into action, he asked.

He was of the view that Governments consult business community, takes input however, it is not implemented. He urged Imran Khan to consult the genuine and real representatives of the business community and questioned: After coming to power, how he will treat the business and industrial community? He suggested that Chairman PTI that he must be aware of who is who of the business community.

He was of the view that for proposal and inputs Government’s ministries/ departments either convince the business community on policy or otherwise accept our input for implementation across the board.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President Muhammad Haroon Agar in his welcome address stated that current economic scenario in our beloved country Pakistan is a matter of concern for every patriotic citizen.

During last few consecutive years, Pakistan’s economy has been injured owing to unprecedented set of challenges like war against terror, deteriorating law and order situation, energy and gas crisis, high cost of doing business which had not severely affected the business and industrial community but all segments of the society.

He said that the state of affairs demand an immediate roadmap/ economic plan for Pakistan. We at KCCI, believe that business and industrial community of Pakistan which is the backbone of the economy should support only those political parties who can provide with a comprehensive and practicable economic plan for Pakistan.

Haroon Agar said that if country can have a charter of democracy signed by politicians. State of Affairs also demand to introduce and implement idea of Charter of Economy given by Chairman Businessmen Group Siraj Kassam Teli which all political parties may sign and implement.

Imran Khan Chairman Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf, speaking on the occasion informed that political leaders in power failed to deliver because they consider themselves superior to country. There are conflict of interests; governments and people in the government must not do business as it is the legitimate right of the business community.

He was of the view that if the leader is corrupt, the whole party will be corrupt, therefore, sincerity and honesty is the essence to deliver. He voiced that coming into power, he will change the prevailing negative scenario to positive in 90 days. His priorities will be good governance, to depoliticize police, bureaucracy, and state owned corporations. Law and order situation in Karachi will be controlled by the political party who don’t have militant wings.

He said that youth is the leading supporter of PTI and 40 million new youth voters are registered. He apprised that PTI after coming to power will make constitutional amendment that Pakistan will not take aid. According to PTI’s Economic Roadmap covers Energy sector, Institutional reform Anti-Corruption/Accountability Governance reform, Expenditure reform, Revenue Collection reform and HR Development.

Vice Presidents PTI Jehangir Tareen, Asad Umar, Secretary General Arif Alvi, Deputy Secretary General Imran Ismail, President PTI Sindh Nadir Leghari, along with PTI advisors, Vice Chairman Businessmen Group and former President Anjum Nisar, Senior Vice President Shamim Firpo, Vice President Nasir Mehmood and Managing Committee Members were also present on the occasion.
