Jordanian King meets Brazilian FM in Amman


Amman Jordanian King Abdullah II received on Sunday Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, who handed him a letter from Brazilian President Michel Temer on relations between the two countries and means of strengthening them in various fields.

During the meeting which took place here, King Abdullah stressed Jordan's keenness to expand cooperation with Brazil in various fields, especially in the economic, trade and investment domains.

Advantages of the Jordanian economy and Jordan's strategic location, which serves as a gateway to regional markets as well as African and Asian markets, was also reviewed, Petra reported.

The meeting also discussed the signing of the investment promotion agreement between Jordan and Brazil, and how the Kingdom could benefit from the framework cooperation agreement with the Mercosur countries which include Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

The King and the Brazilian minister also discussed regional developments, particularly the peace process. King Abdullah underlined the need to intensify efforts to re-launch serious negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis according to the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The King and the Brazilian minister also discussed efforts to find political solutions to the region's crises and fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.

In turn, the Brazilian foreign minister emphasized his country's keenness to boost cooperation with Jordan and raise them to higher levels, lauding the Kingdom's pivotal role, under the leadership of the King, to achieve security and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki also met with Ferreira during which they discussed bilateral ties and ways to further boost them in various domains, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East region.

Al-Mulki also discussed with the top Brazilian diplomat the possibility of importing Jordan's phosphate, potash, and fertilizers and enhancing cooperation between Amman and Brasilia in the tourism sector.

The 28th Arab summit which was hosted by the Kingdom last year and chaired by King Abdullah, al-Mulki said, focused on three key issues including the Palestinian cause, fighting terrorism and promoting the Arab League's work.

On Syria, al-Mulki said that Jordan had reached its maximum capacity due to the Syrian refugee crisis, which contributed to the increase of economic burdens in light of the absence of adequate support from the international community.

The Brazilian diplomat voiced his country's appreciation of Jordan's role in bringing about peace and stability in the region and providing services to the Syrian refugees.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, State Minister for Media Affairs, and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani and the Brazilian ambassador to Jordan.
