Japan International Cooperation Agency to implement a 4 years project for technical support to Auto Parts Manufacturing Industry in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority

 

Lahore, August 27, 2015 (PPI-OT):In response to a proposal of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is going to implement a 4 years project for Technical Support to Auto Parts Manufacturing Industry of Pakistan in collaboration with SMEDA under the guidelines of JICA technical experts. Ms. Yuko Enami, Representative of JICA Pakistan Office and Dr. Haroonur Rashid Rana, Project Formulation Advisor held a meeting with Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO SMEDA today to discuss the implementation phase of the project.

CEO SMEDA was accompanied by Mr. Haroon Ahmed Khan, General Manger, Business and Sector Development Division and the technical team of SMEDA. Mr. Yoko Enami informed that during the proposed 4 years program, technical support will be extended to 50 Auto Parts manufacturing units of Pakistan through five (05) JICA Technical Experts.

Out of 50 SMEs, around 10 SMEs would be developed as model factories in the field of productivity and quality, she said. Furthermore, developing support system through capacity building of partner organizations and local experts is prime consideration of the project; keeping in view the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the relevant fields in consideration, she added.

The CEO SMEDA was further informed that two Japanese Productivity Experts namely Mr. Hiroshi Kaneki and Mr. Hiroshi Sasaki have arrived Pakistan since last week, whereas other three experts would also join the project in due course of time. The JICA team briefed SMEDA CEO about their planned activities in Pakistan on the project telling that the JICA’s visiting Experts would also meet key stakeholders including both Automobile and Auto Parts’ manufacturers.

JICA officials also appreciated the cooperation of SMEDA and looked forward for an everlasting partnership and cooperation in the relevant fields. Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO SMEDA acknowledged the everlasting support of JICA for up-gradation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Pakistan. He said that Auto sector was one of the fastest growing sectors in Pakistan, which was contributing towards the nation’s economy through employment and revenue generation.

But, unfortunately, Pakistan has not been able to derive maximum benefits in terms of technical know-how, production technology and quality control in order to upgrade the vendor base of auto sector, he said adding that SMEDA had been collaborating with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since 2004 to fill in this gap by conducting best productivity and quality improvement initiatives through JICA experts.
