Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses concern over Karachi situation

Islamabad: All the political forces should sit together for evolving a comprehensive strategy so that the peaceful atmosphere of Karachi could be brought back for speedy progress and prosperity of the city.

Karachi was the Pakistan’s premier centre of banking, industry, economic activity and trade but deteriorated law and order situation in the city has caused great depression among the businesses. Government should take immediate measures and find out a strategy to cope with this menace, Mahfooz Elahi, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has said in a statement.

ICCI President expressed deep concern over law and order situation in Karachi and said that despite heavy loss of human lives, our national economy was also facing loss of billion of rupees daily. Government should develop a consensus acceptable to all stakeholders so that permanent solution of this problem could be evolved for the larger interest of the people, he emphasized.

He termed Karachi as the country’s economic engine and the centre of gravity for overall national growth as Karachi’s GDP was more than 20 percent of the total GDP of Pakistan. Karachi was considered to be an economic hub of Pakistan and destabilizing Karachi amounts destabilizing Pakistan, he added.

ICCI President expressed grief and sympathies with the victims of recent killings and condoled with the families of the victims.

He said that Pakistan is a country of moderate and peace loving people, such incidents were not only worsening atmosphere of law and order in the country but as a result of this the country was also getting economically instable.

ICCI President urged the Government to take strict action in Karachi to bring peace in the city because peace in Karachi was the key for progress of the country as it was a bustling metropolis with well-developed infrastructure and a home of shipping industry. The deteriorating law and order situation would have far-reaching implications for trade and industry all over the country if necessary measures were not taken immediately, he opinioned.
