Government implementing Supreme Court’s verdict on Karachi, says President Zardari

Islamabad: A meeting was held in the Presidency Saturday evening to brief the President on the steps being taken to implement the Supreme Court’s judgment in Suo Moto case about law and order situation in Karachi.

The meeting was attended among others by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, Former Law Minister Dr. Babar Awan, Law Minister Sindh Mr. Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Home Minister Sindh Mr. Manzoor Hussain Wassan and Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas. Ms. Farahnaz Ispahani and Ms. Mehreen Anwer Raja were also present during the meeting.

Spokesperson to the President Mr. Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting was specially convened by the President to apprise himself of the steps that had so far been taken for implementation of the verdict.

The Chief Minister Sindh briefed the meeting on the steps taken by the provincial Government for the implementation of the verdict and the steps that will further be taken.

Mr. Farhatullah Babar said that the Supreme Court announced verdict in the case on Thursday. The full verdict is covered in 156 pages.

Spokesperson said that the President expressed satisfaction that all concerned agencies of the Government were cognizant of the need to implement the verdict and that some measures were already taken.
