Gawadar Port offers opportunities for regional connectivity: President Ilham

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said Pakistan’s Gawadar Port offers a huge opportunity to connect the region.

Addressing the international conference titled “Along the Middle Corridor: Geopolitics, Security and Economy, in Baku, he said it is not a big deal to connect the port with our infrastructure.

Ilham Aliyev noted connecting the region will create new opportunities for trade and that all countries have to establish a foundation for sincere cooperation.

He was appreciative of Pakistan for consistently supporting Azerbaijan in the context of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations saying the people of his country highly values this political and moral support.

Terming Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a brother and a close friend, the President of Azerbaijan said the decision to give a five year tax exemption on import of Pakistani rice is the outcome of his two meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He said when we can get high quality rice from our brotherly country then why should we procure it from somewhere else. He said this decision is also a reflection of our fraternal ties.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed gratitude to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for approving the tax exemption on the import of Pakistani rice for five years.

In a tweet on Saturday, he said our two brotherly countries will work to promote economic cooperation and connectivity through road, rail and Gwadar port.
