Export processing Zones will be established in Islamabad and Chakwal: Elahi

Islamabad, November 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): Deputy Prime Minister, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for addressing business community of Federal Capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi said that close liaison with business community is vital for reducing communication gap between private and public sectors which would give a boost to business and industrial activities. He said that they are pursuing policies of state as a facilitator, adding that Government is trying to create a business friendly environment for flourishing business activities in the country.

Deputy Prime Minister said that many mega projects were underway for the economic revival of the country, including establishment of Export Processing Zones all over the country to enable the businessmen of those areas to increase their exports.

He further said that Export processing Zones would also be established in Chakari, Attock and Chakwal which would definitely create job opportunities, bringing in new technology and know-how, and attract foreign investment. He also cited the example of Sundar Industrial Estate and Faisalabad Garment City which are contributing in enhancing the country’s foreign exchange.

Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi assured ICCI for its representation in the CDA board of directors, adding that coalition government would also consider giving representation to ICCI in BoDs of different concerned autonomous organizations to serve the cause of business community.

Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, ICCI President said political stability is a pre-requisite for economic growth and development of the country in the prevailing global scenario to offset the future fiscal challenges. There should have been plan for practicing good governance for sustaining and maintaining a sound political and socio-economic system in the country, he maintained.

He urged the leaders of all political parties to help strengthen democratic system in the national interest by burying their political differences and said that political stability was a key factor worldwide for economic development and restoring confidence of foreign and local investors.

ICCI President said that representation of traders in the CDA board of directors is essential that help in creating a bridge between the citizens and the civic agency to understand the rapidly increasing problems of the city and giving their input in the policy making and decision-making process of mega projects.
