Islamabad, November 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): With the support of the French Alliance in Lahore and the German Annemarie Schimmel Haus, two events focusing on Sufism in South Asia were organized on the 8th of November at the Lahore Arts Council.
The French Ambassador in Pakistan, Philippe Thiebaud and the Cultural Attaché of the German Embassy in Pakistan, Dr. Thomas Ditt were the guests of honour of the opening of a photographic exhibition and musical evening illustrating contemporary aspects of Sufism on the sub-continent.
French photographer Yassir Benchelah and German photographer Horst A. Friedrichs have been capturing images of the manifestations of Sufi culture in South Asia; their displayed collaboration reveals the rich and diverse landscape of this movement.
Shaukat Chinyoti Dholiya and the Sher Miandad Qawal group entertained guests with inspired music, yet another spiritual aspect of the fascinating Sufi culture.
Ahead of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Franco-German cooperation, those events bring to light universal values as well as the willingness of France and Germany to, together, foster dialogues on differences and above all commonalities across civilizations.
