Ebad lauds services of Christian community

Karachi, December 20, 2012 (PPI-OT): A ceremony was held at the Governor House here on Wednesday in connection with Christmas. A cake was also cut as part of the ceremony. Representatives of the Christian community attended the ceremony in a large number.

Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan extended Christmas and New Year’s greetings to the Christian community well in advance. Dr Ebad also lauded the services of the Christian community in the realms of health, education and social welfare in Sindh.

He said that the doors of the Governor House would remain open for the people from all faiths. He was optimistic that people of all religions would make concerted efforts with the spirit of amity and brotherhood for the progress and development of the country and the betterment of its people.

A wide majority of the people in the country was moderate, he said, adding that a handful of extremists wanted to impose their thinking on the people so much so that the anti-polio campaign was also being targeted. He pointed out that the nation was united against extremism, terrorism and militancy and that the government and the people would frustrate the negative thinking.

Referring to interfaith harmony, the governor said that during his visit to the UK he also visited churches in Scotland, Belfast and London and there was a headway in fostering interfaith harmony. “We respect all the faiths and religions.”

He said that in the province concrete steps had been taken for interfaith harmony and that because of these militants and terrorists were not able to cause any rift between various communities.

Representatives of the Christian community congratulated the governor on the completion of his 10 years in office as governor.
