Consul General of France calls on Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities

 

Karachi, January 12, 2017 (PPI-OT):The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Sardar Ali Shah has said that this is the first time that the French archaeologists are working in collaboration with the department at Chahiyoun jo Daro near Mirpurkhas as this excavation would be very important in better understanding the history of Moenjo Daro.

This he said while meeting with the Consul General of France Mr. Francois DALL’ORSO who called on him at his office here on today. Dr. Aurore DIDIER, head of the French Archaeological mission in Chanhu jo Daro also accompanied the Consul General. The Secretary Culture Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Director General Archaeology Manzoor Kanasiro, and others were also present in the meeting.

The Minister Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that from Makli to Mohen-jo-Daro and from Umerkot to Bhambhore the conservation and preservation work of different archaeological sites of the province is going on simultaneously in full swing, and we welcome the French archaeologists to work at Chahiyoun jo Daro.

He said that this is very first time that a 5 member French team of archaeologists is working on Chahiyoun jo Daro, and 10 students of Sindh University Jamshoro and Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur are also doing their research along with the French team. He told the French Consul General that his department would provide every possible facility to the archaeologists as it is really a matter of pride for us that they are taking interest in our Indus civilization. He told them a department team will be accompanying them on their research work, and all the necessary arrangements are done by the department to facilitate them.

The Consul General of France Mr. Francois DALL’ORSO thanked the Minister for the fullest cooperation from his department, and appreciated the working of the department. The consul General said that the Indus Valley Civilization is not only an important civilization of the region but also it is of a profound interest for the world at large, and especially the Archaeologists always love to visit Sindh. He said that Sindh is the seat of wonderful civilization, and its culture is also so diverse and peaceful.

The head of the French Archaeological mission in Chanhu jo Daro Dr. Aurore DIDIER said that she has been working in Balochistan since 10 years, and in Sindh since a very long time, and according to her opinion the excavation work at Chahnyoun jo Daro will be a great breakthrough to better understand the history of Moenjodaro. She said that she is quite impressed by the ongoing works at different archaeological sites of the province, and she plans to give a presentation in a post-research-seminar if organized by the department.

On this the Culture Minister said that the department would definitely welcome any encouraging and learning activity and we would organize that seminar after the working at Chahnyoun jo Daro is completed so that we can materialize the further course of action. He told them that we are working simultaneously on all archaeological sites, and for this we have written all the interested consulates to make a collaborative efforts in the arena of culture, tourism and antiquities, and most of them have responded positively to jointly work for the promotion of culture.

On this the Consul General of France said that France would definitely work with the Sindh Culture Department and for this he would ask the head of Alliance Françoise for a collective meeting to formalize the working relationship in culture field. Syed Sardar Ali Shah presented the Cultural gifts of Ajrak and Shawl to the French guests.
