Additional IG, gunman martyred in Peshawar blast


Additional Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Ashraf Noor and his gunman were martyred and five people injured in a bomb blast in Hayatabad area of Peshawar on Friday morning.

According to police, the terrorists targeted the vehicle of the Additional IG.

The injured have been shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have strongly condemned blast.

In separate statements, both the President and Prime Minister have lauded the sacrifices of Police personnel in the fight against terrorism and said that such acts of militants can not deter our law-enforcement agencies and the nation in taking the fight against terrorism to its logical conclusion.

They have prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and grant of courage to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.

Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir and State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb have also condemned the blast and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has paid salute to supreme sacrifice of Additional IG KP Muhammad Ashraf Noor.

He said the nation's determination against threats to motherland will remain undeterred.

Namaz-e-Janaza of the martyred Additional Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Ashraf Noor was offered in police line Peshawar on Friday afternoon.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Nazir Ahmad Butt, IG police and others high ranking civil and military officials attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.

Later, his body was sent to his native village in Skardu for burial.
