The Chairman expressed these views while addressing the 252nd Executive Board Meeting of National Highway Authority, here in Islamabad today. The participants of the meeting deliberated upon making the highway journey safer alongside ensuring safety of the highways and for this purpose, systematic planning is needed, it was told.

The highways that are more accident-prone must be urgently repaired, and on such highways, usage instructions through sign boards must be explicitly displayed and there is also a need to install speed breakers on specific points on the highways so that our public is saved from fatal accidents, it was pointed out. The Chairman NHA urged concerned officials to ensure timely completion of M-8 which is an important highway connecting Sindh and Baluchistan.

NHA’s Member (Admn) Col. ® Salman Rashid told the meeting that tenders for auction of NHA’s 27 toll plazas will be floated soon and they are expected to generate twice as much revenue as compared to the previous years.

The Member (Admn) said that after the award of contracts for the operation of these toll plazas, NHA is expected to earn 2.5 billion rupees revenue per year. The participants of the meeting were also told that contract for Package-III of the Hazara Motorway, which is from Serai Saleh to Samlaila, has already been awarded. Important decisions regarding repair, maintenance and beautification of highways and other projects were also discussed in the meeting.
