Islamabad: Islamabad Police during the current year arrested 210 street criminals in its special campaign to curb street crime as well as dacoity incidents and also recovered looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, 170 mobile phones and 23 cars from their possession, a police spokesman said.
A special plan was prepared by IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan to curb street crime and directions were issued to all SPs/SDPOs and patrolling officers for effective policing as well as vigilance in their areas. As per this plan, record of those persons ever remained involved in street crime was also obtained by the police officials and their monitoring was ensured.
City Circle Police arrested 43 street criminals, Saddar Circle police arrested 94 persons, and Industrial Circle police arrested 43 while Rural Zone nabbed 30 street criminals during the ongoing year.
A total of 170 snatched or stolen mobile phones while 23 vehicles were also recovered from them. IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan has appreciated the performance of police. He, however, directed them to curb the crimes in 2011 through effective patrolling and high vigilance.
SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik has further directed all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions and take stern action against the anti-social elements.
