Islamabad: HEC scholars Dr. Khalid Mahmood and Dr. Ishfaq Ali Bukhari have successfully completed their post-doctorate studies from the University of California, Los Angeles and The Medical College of Wisconsin, USA, respectively.
Dr. Mahmood, who is a Professor of Library and Information Sciences at University of the Punjab, Lahore surveyed US academic librarians and library websites to study the impact of Web 2.0 technologies. Dr. John Richardson supervised his research.
“In my research, I have found that Web 2.0 technologies have played a significant role in delivering library services to their users particularly beyond library walls. Web 2.0 tools like blogs, micro blogs, RSS, instant messaging, social networking sites, mashups, podcasts, vodcasts, wikis, photo sharing, presentation sharing, virtual worlds, customized webpages and vertical search engines have helped libraries to involve their users in service delivery. The research found that there was a significant positive correlation between the extent of Web 2.0 adoption in libraries and librarians’ opinion about their advantages,” says Dr. Mahmood.
He has re-joined his parent organization where he intends to incorporate his learning about North American academic culture in curriculum design, classroom teaching, student management and conducting and supervising research.
Dr. Bukhari completed his research in the field of Biological and Medical Sciences. The topic of his Post Doctorate research was “Pharmacological Studies on novel hybrid Compounds with a nitric oxide donor”. Dr. William B Campbell supervised his research.
Dr. Bukhari has developed new compounds that are important to his understanding of the causes of hypertension and ischemic heart disease and provide insights into new therapies. Ongoing investigations of eicosanoid metabolites in the laboratory have led to the discovery of novel therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases.
The research work of Dr. Bukhari has been published in US based Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He has joined The Shifa College of Medicine, Islamabad as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology.
