5th February is a day to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir

Islamabad, February 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): The 5th February is a day to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir who have been struggling and rendering unparalleled sacrifices to achieve the right of self-determination for the past six decades, says a press release received here today from Abu Dhabi.

Ambassador of Pakistan to UAE, Mr. Jamil Ahmad Khan said this while addressing a gathering of Pakistani and Kashmiri community living in UAE on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day which is observed every year on the 5th of February.

Ambassador Khan said that it is a day dedicated to show Pakistan’s support and unity with the people of Kashmir, their ongoing freedom struggle, and to pay homage to Kashmiri martyrs who lost their lives fighting for Kashmir’s freedom.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled stand on Kashmir issue, the Ambassador reiterated that we want to have peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions and the wishes of Kashmiri people.

He reassured that Pakistan will continue to provide political, moral and diplomatic support for the just cause of the Kashmiri people. He also condemned the human rights violations committed by Indian forces in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

We also need to convey our message to the International community that lasting peace in the region can only be established by resolving the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir, he added.

He pointed out that in this context, Pakistan initiated confidence building measures (CBM’s) as part of the composite dialogue with the hope that it would help in resolving problems of Kashmir.

Other speakers highlighted the background of the Kashmir dispute and stated that since 27th October 1947 when India forcefully occupied Kashmir, the people of Kashmir have been struggling to attain their inalienable right of self-determination and independence, from the illegal occupation of the Indian Armed Forces.

Messages from the President and the Prime minister of Pakistan were also read on the occasion.

A separate ceremony was organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai in which Kashmiri and Pakistani community members participated in large number. They pointed out that successive Indian governments have failed to honour the commitments of their own leaders to grant the right of self-determination to the Kashmiris. They noted that in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, India is morally and legally bound to give the Kashmiri people their cherished right of self-determination as enshrined in the UN Charter.

Consul General of Pakistan, Mr. Tariq Iqbal Soomro in his address said that the objective of the observance of 5th February as Solidarity Day is to reiterate the firm resolve of the Government and people of Pakistan that we will provide all political, moral and diplomatic support to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their struggle for their right of self-determination.

At the end of the functions, special prayers were offered for the Kashmiri martyrs and for an early solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people.
