13th Pakistan-United Kingdom Defence Cooperation Forum starts

 

Islamabad, February 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): A high-profile defence delegation headed by the Permanent under Secretary for Defence UK will hold meetings on important matters related to Defence and Defence Production during the two day visit to Pakistan. The first day of meetings started with commitment from both sides to achieve peace in the region and assurance to take all necessary measures to achieve the goal of peace.

The meeting is important in the current scenario of Post -2014 Afghanistan. The two sides have stressed the need of coordinated and cooperative approach. Pakistan and United Kingdom work closely as allies in the War on Terror. In the past also, the two countries have been cooperating in matters of Defence and Defence Production.

The 13th Meeting of Pakistan and United Kingdom Defence Cooperation Forum (DCF) started today at the Ministry of Defence and Defence Production. Agenda points from the last meeting held in August 2011 were broadly discussed.

The meeting was divided into two working groups. First group was chaired by Gp Capt David Hayward from the UK side and Additional Secretary Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmed from Pakistan-side. The group discussed matters related to military trainings between the two countries.

The second working group was received at the Ministry of Defence Production. The meeting was chaired by Mr. David Sheppard from the UK side and Additional Secretary Maj Gen Tariq Rashid Khan HI(M) from the Pakistan-side. This group held a meeting regarding procurement of equipments and other matters related to Defence Production.

Both meetings held at day one will continue till tomorrow. Reports of the working groups will be presented by the Pakistan and UK sides. The first day ended on a high note with a resolve to enhance cooperation, in the field of defence between the two countries.
